Blasting Cellulite with Cheeky Cups
If anyone has ever told you there’s nothing you can do about cellulite, or that the only way to reduce its appearance is by dropping a significant amount of weight, they’re wrong. For starters, cellulite can pop up even on the skinniest of thighs. When fascia – small fibers that basically keep everything in your body in place – bonds to the skin, it can push fat up through the congested areas and cause a dimpled appearance. So, by unblocking those fibers, you can significantly smooth out the appearance of cellulite.
Many people swear by their fasciablasters, but I wanted to give cupping a try instead. Based on ancient health and beauty practices, cupping creates a suction that “reverse massages” your trouble spots and breaks up cellulite. And since I’m a huge fan of Cheeky Physique, I couldn’t wait to try their Cheeky Cups.
The Cheeky Cups kit comes with two silicone suction cups – a small one for areas like the arms and stomach, and a large one for the hips and thighs.
As I took my “before” photo, I decided that I would purposely use the most unflattering lighting imaginable (ie: overhead lighting and tons of shadows) for both my before and after pics. We all have certain angles that magically disguise our wobbly bits, but I wanted my results to be as accurate as possible.
After I snapped my before photo and resisted the urge to airbrush the weird crease line I had from sitting on the sofa, I got started by Cheeky Cupping my thighs and using coconut oil to help the cup glide along my skin. One of the things I loved most about the cups is how you can adjust the suction pressure – I was worried that they wouldn’t be strong enough, but they’re pretty hardcore. I could even feel the fascia breaking up as I circled the cup around.
Anyways, let’s cut to the chase – check out my before and after photos below.
These photos were taken only four weeks apart, and I would spend about 15 minutes performing my cupping massage 5-6 days per week. When I took the after photo, I was so shocked that I couldn’t stop checking out my legs in the mirror, thinking it was some sort of optical illusion. Aside from the smoother appearance, my skin itself feels a LOT firmer and more taught. And… I’m not sure if it’s all of the squats and deadlifts I do… but my thighs also look a lot more contoured. Like, the actual SHAPE is different. It may or may not be from the Cheeky Cups, but I ain’t complaining.
For the record, YES the Cheeky Cups do cause bruising when you use as strong a suction as I do. But even though I had some pretty gross-looking bruises, they disappeared within two days after stopping the cupping massage. Also, the bruises don’t actually hurt. Unlike a regular bruise caused by a contusion, cupping bruises occur when the fascia is being broken up, which increases circulation to the area that was once congested. So the spotty appearance of cupping bruises just shows were cellulite dimples and bumps are being blasted. It’s kinda cool.
Needless to say, I would 100% recommend Cheeky Cups and cupping massage for treating cellulite. I don’t even remember the last time the sides of my thighs were dimple-free, and I can’t wait for my next tropical vacay so I can show them off on the beach!
