5 Podcasts Everyone Should Be Listening To
I don’t understand how anyone could NOT be listening to podcasts nowadays. Hello?! It’s the ultimate source of inspiration, motivation, personal development, and education – fuh FREE. And trust me… if you’re someone who is thinking “Nah, I don’t need that stuff,” then you probably need it even more. The most successful people in the world purposely dedicate time each day towards personal development; so I always have an episode playing in the background while I’m working, cleaning my room, exercising, or doing my hair and makeup.
If you’re new to the podcast game, here are the five I subscribe to. Not every podcast host is going to click with your own personality and style, so listen to several until you find shows that resonate with you and your needs.
The Chalene Show
I have considered Chalene Johnson to be a mentor of mine for almost eight years now, and I’ve already written about my obsession with The Chalene Show. Think of it as the ultimate “multivitamin” that covers different areas of life so you can achieve health, balance, success, and happiness. Also, don’t be fooled by her perky, cheerleader-like demeanor – Chalene can dish out a serious dose of tough ass love and major reality checks, which always end up being my favorite episodes.
The Model Health Show
After hearing Chalene interview Shawn Stevenson on her podcast, I was hooked. As the host of The Model Health Show, Shawn is someone who totally looks the part of a fitness model. What’s his specialty? Sleep. This guy has so much science-based knowledge about our bodies and hormones, it totally brings out the nerd in me. It’s also a nice change from the normal “weight loss inspiration” kind of stuff. Everything Shawn discusses is based on science and research, making it a practical, no-nonsense approach to health and fitness.
The School of Greatness
I have to thank Chalene again for introducing me to this one. Lewis Howes is a young, amazingly inspirational entrepreneur who hosts The School of Greatness podcast (also the name of his best-selling book). He has interviewed some of the world’s most high-profile life coaches and individuals on his show, and I love how he focuses on helping people achieve their own personal level of greatness – however it is they may define it. Lewis was also the inspiration behind one of my podcast episodes (listen here).
Happier with Gretchen Rubin
Gretchen Rubin is a fellow NYC local who has developed quite a cult following after writing books like The Happiness Project and Better Than Before. The Happier podcast is one of my favorites to listen to when I’m simultaneously folding laundry and drinking wine (one of my favorite ways to relax), and Gretchen hosts the show with her sister Elizabeth. Filled with great little tips and tricks anyone can apply to daily life, I like how this podcast reminds us how something as trivial as pretty office supplies can make our day a little happier. Also, I love listening to Elizabeth. She’s absolutely hilarious.
Fit2Fat2Fit
I became hooked on Fit2Fat2Fit after watching the show debut on A&E earlier this year. Hands-down the best weight loss television show I’ve seen, Fit2Fat2Fit is now a podcast as well, hosted by Drew Manning and his wife Lynn. The podcast always has great guests; Drew’s mission to spread empathy and understanding within the fitness industry is nothing short of admirable; and Lynn is the sweetest. I love how she always mentions her obsession with donuts.
